The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team was among others receiving votes in the first NJCAA Division II rankings of the regular season, released Monday afternoon.

The Chargers (2-0) were one of 12 teams outside of the top 20 that received votes. Sandburg finished with three points in this week’s rankings.

The Chargers opened the season with a pair of victories last week, winning 88-73 at Moraine Valley on Tuesday and blowing out Oakton 83-54 on Saturday afternoon at home. Sandburg shot over 50 percent from the floor in both contests, and its 53.4 field goal percentage ranks 12th in the country. The Chargers’ 45.2 percent mark from 3-point range is good for sixth nationally.

Sandburg also has held teams to just 33 percent shooting from the floor, which ranks sixth in NJCAA Division II.

The Chargers host St. Ambrose JV at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
